Wholesome Eating 🥗

Introduction

Holistic health embraces the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit, emphasizing a lifestyle that nurtures overall well-being. A cornerstone of this approach is building a sound foundation based on whole organic grains, beans, and vegetables. These nutrient-rich foods provide the essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber necessary for physical health while also fostering mental clarity and emotional balance.

  • Whole organic grains like quinoa, millet, brown rice, and oats are complex carbohydrates that deliver sustained energy and stabilize blood sugar levels.

  • Beans, such as lentils, aduki beans, chickpeas, and black beans, are excellent sources of plant-based protein and iron, promoting muscle health and boosting immunity.

  • Vegetables form the vibrant core of a holistic diet. Leafy greens like water cress, endive, and kale, alongside cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Chinese cabbage and cauliflower, provide antioxidants that combat oxidative stress and inflammation. Root vegetables like carrots and sweet potatoes offer essential nutrients like beta-carotene, supporting vision and immune function.

Eastern Philosophical Roots 🌱

Eastern dietary philosophy has long emphasized the essential connection between a wholesome diet and overall well-being. Ancient Eastern philosophers understood that true happiness stems from maintaining physical health and holistic balance. Central to this philosophy is the idea of balanced energy and mindful nourishment, with a focus on consuming seasonal foods in appropriate proportions. This approach fosters harmony within the body and mind, promoting tranquility and balance.

Value of Ancient Wisdom 📜

The ancient wisdom of Eastern philosophy, with its centuries-old teachings, remains relevant today, particularly within the rich dietary traditions of India and China. Despite the passage of time and the loss of some specific details, this wisdom continues to provide valuable insights into nutrition, health, and happiness. George Ohsawa played a crucial role in bringing authentic TAO dietary teachings, known as macrobiotics, to the global stage.

The Grand Master of Macrobiotics – George Ohsawa 🧑‍🏫

George Ohsawa made one of the most significant contributions to global health in history. His pioneering work in macrobiotics has had a profound and far-reaching impact on health and wellness worldwide. He was concerned not with the cure of disease but with its prevention. Nutrition and medicine were seen as very closely related fields and health was considered the natural reward of a life of self-control and moderation, lived in conformity with the laws of Nature.

Emphasis on Balance ⚖️

George Ohsawa taught how to construct the architecture, from the foundation up, of a holistic diet that promotes harmony and well-being. Acknowledging the natural order of the universe, he recommended avoiding certain foods permanently, including animal products and chemicalized foods. He emphasized the importance of choosing organic, plant-based foods that are free from chemical additives to support a natural and balanced lifestyle. It is also advised to avoid nightshade vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, and aubergine, as they carry an extreme yin energy.

Best Breakfast for a Vibrant Start ☀️

Organic Pressure-Cooked Oat flakes with Tahin, and as a side dish you may add sultanas, whole Cranberries, miso, sauerkraut, natto, umeboshi or daikon pickle. Oat flake porridge is a highly nutritious breakfast option, packed with health benefits and is a good source of essential vitamins and minerals, such as magnesium, phosphorus, and B vitamins. Oat porridge is also known to aid digestion and promote satiety, making it an excellent choice for health management and overall well-being. The addition of tahin brings a creamy texture and a dose of healthy unsaturated fats and strong calcium, while sultanas and whole cranberries offer natural sweetness and a punch of antioxidants. For a dose of healthy microbes, introduce natto, a Japanese superfood rich in probiotics, high protein, vitamins especially K2 and minerals. Together, these ingredients create a powerhouse breakfast that supports balanced growth and development and your personal well-being.

Lunch for Vitality 🍜

Organic Japanese ramen, udon or soba noodles, enriched with vegetables and miso or shoyu to provide additional vitamins and minerals. Tibetan tsampa (roasted grain flour) or tupatupa soup (boiled flour balls with vegetables) or vegetable momos (steamed dumplings). Alternatively, indulge in plain pancakes or chapattis filled with tofu and nut paste, loaded with greens and sprouts providing a satisfying and protein-rich option. The combination of these meals ensures a diverse range of nutrients, keeping you energized and happy.

Noodles, along with other ingredients, can be combined to create a diverse range of nutritious and balanced lunches.

Nourishing Dinner for Well-Being 🍚

Whole Grain Rice, Barley, Quinoa, Teff or Millet with Aduki Beans, Black Beans, Chickpeas or Red Kidney Beans, also Tofu, Fu, Mochi, Seitan and a Rainbow of Vegetables. Choose from a variety of whole grains which contain B group vitamins like rice, barley, quinoa, teff, or millet paired with protein-rich aduki beans, black beans, chickpeas or red kidney beans . Enhance the meal with tofu, fu, mochi and seitan for a wholesome protein boost. The addition of sweet potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, pointed cabbage, endive and watercress ensures a colorful array of vegetables, rich in vitamins and minerals. Sauerkraut or vegetable pickles help digestion.

Healthy Habits for Well-Being 😊

The secret to a long and healthy life is rooted in wholesome eating with emphasis on natural living and the avoidance of certain ingredients that will negatively impact well-being.

  • By avoiding sugar, individuals are protected from unnecessary additives and potential health issues.

  • Eliminating animal products, including meat and dairy, supports ethical and sustainable food choices while promoting heart health.

  • Avoid onions, garlic, leeks, chives, tomatoes, potatoes, aubergine, avocados and in winter, tropical fruits which will disrupt balance in the digestive system and may cause potential discomfort in some people.

  • Ultra-processed foods, drugs, allopathic medicines, and alcohol will slowly destroy your happiness, especially in children.

Philosophy of Food 🧠

Introduction

Whole food and balanced eating represent more than just dietary choices; they embody a holistic philosophy that encompasses nourishing the body, mind, and spirit. Rooted in the belief that food is medicine, it emphasizes consuming minimally processed, nutrient-dense vegan foods that promote optimal health and well-being. The philosophy of balanced eating can only hold true when it is within a framework, such as those developed for many centuries in Eastern philosophy by the Indians (Ayurveda), Chinese (TAO), Persians (Unani) and more recently by the Japanese (macrobiotics).

Eastern Philosophies on Food and Health ☯️

The TAO and Yin-Yang Balance

The TAO, a fundamental concept in Chinese philosophy, emphasizes the interconnectedness and harmony of all aspects of existence, including food and health. Central to TAO teachings is the concept of Yin and Yang, representing complementary forces that are interconnected and interdependent.

Yin and Yang: Opposing yet complementary forces present in all phenomena. Yin represents qualities such as wetness, coldness, and femininity, while Yang represents qualities like dryness, warmth, and masculinity.

TAO teachings emphasize the importance of harmony and balance in all aspects of life, including diet. A balanced diet consists of foods that incorporate balance in the Yin and Yang forces in food, ensuring the body's equilibrium and vitality.

Ayurveda: The Science of Life

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, offers comprehensive principles related to food and nutrition for maintaining health and well-being. The emphasis is on consuming fresh, whole foods that are minimally processed and rich in nutrients. Ayurveda advises adjusting dietary choices according to the seasons to maintain balance and harmony with nature. Ayurveda also encourages mindful eating practices, such as eating slowly, chewing food thoroughly, and avoiding distractions. Ayurveda also lays the foundation for satvic food i.e. food that is nutritious but not stimulating and can lead to the calming of the mind.

Macrobiotics: Achieving Balance Through Food

Macrobiotics is a holistic dietary approach aimed at achieving balance and enhancing health by emphasizing the consumption of whole, unprocessed foods. This approach prioritizes nutrient-rich options such as whole grains, beans, vegetables, seaweed, and fermented foods, which are known to support overall well-being and promote a harmonious relationship between diet and health. Central to macrobiotic philosophy is the concept of yin and yang, representing complementary forces in nature. The system promotes a primarily vegan-based diet and considers the energetic qualities of food.

Unani Philosophy of Food Classification and Health Impact

Unani philosophy views food as a fundamental aspect of health, considering its quality, quantity, and temperament. Foods are classified as hot, cold, wet, or dry based on their effects on the body. The Unani principle of balanced eating, rooted in the humoral theory, resonates deeply with the philosophies of Ayurveda, the Tao, and macrobiotics, emphasizing harmony and equilibrium. Unani emphasizes preventive care to maintain health and prevent diseases.

Modern Scientific Perspectives on Nutritional Science and Balanced Eating 🔬

Modern nutritional science emphasizes a holistic approach to balanced eating, considering not only macronutrients and micronutrients but also factors like lifestyle, cultural context, and individual health needs. Scientific research recognizes the importance of diverse dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet and plant-based diets, in promoting health and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Integrating evidence-based practices into dietary guidelines ensures that recommendations are grounded in scientific research, promoting optimal health outcomes.

Integration of Scientific Findings with Traditional Eastern Philosophies 🤝

Traditional Eastern philosophies, such as Ayurveda, TAO, macrobiotics and Unani, emphasize harmony and balance in all aspects of life, including diet. Eastern philosophies categorize foods based on their effects on the body's temperament, aligning with modern scientific understanding of nutritional properties. Like modern personalized nutrition, Eastern philosophies offer individualized dietary recommendations based on an individual's constitution, health status, and environmental factors. Both traditional Eastern philosophies and modern science advocate for the consumption of whole, minimally processed foods for optimal health and well-being. What all these systems have in common is balance for health and happiness.

Universal Concepts on Health and Happiness ✨

The Power of Whole Foods

Encouraging a diet rich in whole foods ensures adults and children receive essential nutrients for optimal growth and development. This philosophy aligns with the idea that a well-nourished body contributes to overall happiness and vitality.

Organic Purity

Choosing organic foods minimizes exposure to harmful pesticides and additives, promoting a cleaner, healthier lifestyle for everyone, especially for kids.

Vegan Harmony

Embracing a vegan lifestyle not only reflects compassion towards animals but also emphasizes the importance of plant-based nutrition. Ancient Eastern philosophies often highlight the interconnectedness of all living beings, supporting the idea that a vegan diet aligns with a harmonious and compassionate worldview.

Gut-Brain Axis

Scientific studies affirm the intricate connection between the gut and the brain. A diet focused on whole, organic, and vegan foods positively influence gut health, fostering mental well-being.

Reasons Why Ancient Dietary Philosophy is Crucial for Modern Health 💯

Spiritual Power of Food 🙏

Introduction

A sound foundation is certainly the best place to build a life of meaningful spirituality. Food quality, which builds the food body, is paramount in cultivating a happy spirit, as it directly impacts self-awareness, the essence of every sentient being. Stimulating foods like animal flesh maintain attachment to the duality of the universe, while non-stimulating foods like whole grains and vegetables foster self-awareness and transcendence of duality. Food can be used as an instrument to manipulate the laws of nature to bring about balanced health and happy spiritual contentment.

Ancient Philosophies and Food 🍎

Ancient philosophers from India and China recognized a deep connection between food and spirituality. The Ayurveda and TAO scriptures emphasize that being in harmony with the TAO requires a balanced diet. This allows one to perceive the TAO’s infinite nature only when the mind transcends its active state.

The finite mind cannot perceive the infinite TAO emptiness.

Chinese philosophy focused on understanding natural laws to comprehend the inner workings of the body, categorizing food based on its natural production methods to maximize its impact on health and happiness, giving rise to the yin and yang system.

Japanese observers, influenced by TAO principles, applied their knowledge of yin and yang to food to address various diseases. Rather than viewing sickness as random, they saw it as a result of specific dietary imbalances, advocating whole foods to support the body's healing capabilities. Illness was perceived as a condition produced by specific dietary causes, not as an arbitrary misfortune.

Basic Facts of Health ⚕️

Here are some foundational facts to consider in the pursuit of balanced health:

  1. All life is governed by universal law - the centrifugal yin and centripetal yang forces.

  1. Individuals have the power to create their desired level of health.

  1. Life is governed by the universal law of cause and effect. Balance is resistance to disease and stress.

From a Yin/Yang perspective, diseases are expressions of extreme yin and yang energy ingested via our diet. Pathogenic bacteria thrive in a blood medium rich in the extremes of yin and yang energy, which is programmed into our bodies via unbalanced substances. To program a medium within the body that is intolerable to bacteria and viruses, one must avoid the extremes of yin and yang energy. A balanced metabolism, stemming from balanced food intake, is disease and stress-free.

Nature's Law and Balance ⚖️

No one with extremes of yin and yang energy in their body is exempt from the retributive forces of nature. An unbalanced person is eventually lured into their own disease trap. Lasting health is achieved when the body is in balance with the yin and yang forces of nature, through a balanced whole food regime.

Individuals who consume food containing a balanced yin and yang energy create a metabolic balance where diseases cannot find their opposites and are therefore not attracted. Harmful bacteria and viruses that enter such a body cannot find the extreme energy they require to propagate themselves.

Many individuals are satisfied with their health regardless of their yin-yang balance, believing disease only afflicts others. However, all unbalanced people will succumb to disease sooner or later, which will seriously impair their development. A balanced person follows the constitutional order of the universe and enjoys health and a happy spiritual disposition. To be spiritual, one must be healthy, and disease is proof of violating the order of the universe.

Eliminating Extremes for Good Health 💡

The solution around a disease problem is to eliminate the extremes of energy from one’s diet that cause the disease. Knowledge of the yin-yang allows the programmer to create an energy balance in their body that makes it intolerable for diseases and stress to develop. All diseases are expressions of extremes of yin and yang energy contained in the body, and disease bacteria and viruses are themselves extremes of energy. A balanced body metabolism is the nemesis of disease.

The study, research, and practice of balance has been conclusive for thousands of years, with countless individuals attesting to the value of balanced eating after recovering from various ailments.

Do not believe anything unless you can bear witness to the results. Do not take advice from anyone unless they themselves are free from disease.

Symptomatic vs. Holistic Healing 🌿

Most doctors and patients believe in symptomatic healing, which focuses on the disease but not on the cause. Balanced eating, however, aims for humanity to become truly independent by solving mental, physical, and spiritual problems with the use of food given to us by nature.

A diet consisting of balanced yin and yang energy leaves no opportunity for disease to grow, thus it is not necessary to heal anything.

Modern Food Industry Concerns ⚠️

Food manufacturers are misguided by motives for profit, and balance plays no part in their calculations. Many ingredients programmed into our food by the modern food industry are alien to human metabolism due to the extremes of yin and yang energy they contain. Degenerative diseases become widespread.

Although there is no direct conspiracy between the $ 1.5trillion food industry and the 4.5 trillion healthcare industry (that treats just the symptoms), the economic effect is the same as if the two industries were conspiring against the consumer.

“More are slain by suppers than the sword.” - Adolf Hitler

High Aspiration and Low Judgment 🤔

The ancient Oriental philosophers observed that the greater the provocation of the natural order, the greater the response from nature. Each person is affected by the karma they create for themselves, by the quality of yin and yang they ingest. Persons of high aspiration and low judgment unknowingly do justice to themselves by attracting retributive forces that eventually kill them. Persons become ill because they have contravened the Natural Order of Balance.

Follow the Money 💸

The healthcare industry is the third largest employer in the US, and food manufacturers supplying chemicalized food hugely benefit from sick people. In a sick society, the average person is sick. Health costs would be greatly diminished if humans were provided with ‘wellness’ care rather than ‘sickness band aids.’

Chemicalized Foods 🧪

Chemicalized foods have become so widespread that it takes special care to avoid them, as all chemical food additives are extreme in nature.

Many eaters allow the food and medical industry to govern their constitution. Sound personal politics can only be achieved by governing yourself in a society armed with the knowledge of balanced eating and living.

Organic Source Selection 🍃

Finding a store, supermarket, or farmers market that sells organic food is crucial. Pay attention to the ingredients added to the foods – if you are unsure, then skip the product. Fresh organic vegetables are always the best choice for health and balance, especially green leafy vegetables. Avoid extreme yin vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, and aubergine, as well as onions, garlic, leeks, and shallots.

Most vegetables should be lightly cooked, except salad vegetables, but root and hard vegetables may be cooked in water until soft.

The Importance of Vegetables 🥦

If you are seeking balance, a huge priority must be given to vegetables, especially green leaf organic vegetables. Eating green leafy vegetables will bring light to your life, and light is the source of balance, good health, and spiritual awareness.

Nature's approach to health is to achieve whole health on all levels, including spiritual health. It is essential to read and understand which foods contain extreme yin and/or yang energy and should be avoided.

Final Word 📝

  • Avoid the flesh of animals, birds, fish, and crustaceans.

  • Avoid all dairy products from animal origin.

  • Avoid sugar and all artificial sweeteners.

  • Avoid chemically grown food.

  • Avoid allopathic medicines.

  • Avoid processed foods containing chemical additives.

Chapter 4: Satvic Food for Silence 🧘

Introduction

There are satvic elements in all the great dietary systems in ancient history. The chief purpose of satvic food is to assist the eater to render their mind inoperative. All foods outside satva stimulate the mind creating attachment and an enduring process of birth and death.

Eating satva is not a practice or ritual, no effort is needed as everyone has to eat. The art is to understand what satva is as this teaching has been lost over time. However, a careful look at the philosophy of TAO, Ayurveda, Unani and macrobiotics will lead to a quintessential understanding - only a synthesis of these teachings will reveal the true satva.

This transcendent satva extends across cultures and histories, embodying Satva, the TAO, Para Brahman, Absolute Emptiness, the Self, Satori, Nirvana, Pure-Being, Buddha Mind and more - a symbol of infinite consciousness beyond finite comprehension. What all these cultural words refer to is the total destruction of the mind. Absolute satva is absolute destruction of the mind.

The satva diet carries the satva force which over time gradually builds up to the point where it overtakes the mind revealing absolute quietude.

Ramana Maharshi 🙏

Ramana Maharshi

The image depicts Ramana Maharshi, a revered Indian sage.

Of all the restrictive rules that people perform, that of eating satvic food is the best to silence the mind.

When one abides in satva all actions take place spontaneously, and are performed very efficiently, without any mental effort or activity. Sri Ramana Maharshi said that progress is for the mind and not for satva. Satva is ever perfect.

Eating satvic food is the ultimate being-ness of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy - the philosophy of non-duality. No guru, no god, no teacher, no system - just eat satvic food and abide in satva. When satva is ripe it will expose itself as absolute silence. Any effort to attain silence or happiness will not happen.

Spiritual giants like Lao Tzu, Confucius, Mahamuni Buddha, Jesus, and Mohamed exemplified the total annihilation of the mind, leading to clarity and emotional equilibrium.

Whether in Unani, TAO, Ayurveda, or macrobiotics, the shared path to balance resides in consuming organic whole grains, vegetables, fruits, beans, and seaweed.

A satvic diet is based on food that is nutritious, animal free, organic, wholesome and in balance with the yin and yang forces of nature. Satvic foods give energy but do not stimulate the mind - an active mind is an attached mind.

When satva dominates the heart, the mind becomes silent, and the individual becomes a Buddha.

The satva diet is the most advanced form of creating a food body that is able to generate perfect quietude. Satva continually flows through the body arranging the cells for a harmonious function - from this flow all will come that will come.

Ramana Maharshi exemplified a life free from material bondage and embodied complete renunciation and contentment where the rules of nature no longer applied to him as a Buddha of the empty realm of absolute emptiness.

Harilal Poonja 😇

Harilal Poonja

The image depicts Harilal Poonja, an Indian saint.

Harilal Poonja, a truly gentle spiritual giant, said no need to struggle. Simply keep quiet and make no effort - you come to your Buddha nature through earnestness. Let satva do its work without trying. Grace comes from satva and takes you where you must go for freedom.

Be still and make no effort, let satva do its work. Satva will settle your mind in a calm and natural state of perfectly clear being-ness. The degree of the absence of thoughts is the measure of your progress towards absolute satva.

Just keep eating satva with no expectation. When the digestion is full of satva it will rise to the heart and expose itself. The mind will be destroyed forever. There will be challenges but sincerity and endurance will take you there.

Organic whole grains, vegetables, beans, fruit and seaweeds are the carriers of satva. Avoid animal products, tomatoes, potatoes, aubergine, onions, garlic, leeks and chives.

By eating balanced food one can ensure a calm state of wellness and a means to deal with stress so that our health is not adversely affected. Wellness management based on balance is tantamount to life management in all its facets.

All that exists is made up of yin(female) and yang(male) energy which nature has combined in various proportions to create the cosmos. The food you eat contains yin and yang energy and the manner in which you combine this energy will determine your state of health and happiness.

Lord Krishna

The image captures a serene scene, presenting a visually striking composition. At the forefront of the image is a central figure, the blue-skinned deity, who is elegantly playing a flute. The deity is adorned in an ornate headdress, which showcases an assortment of peacock feathers in varying hues and shapes, adding a vibrant and dynamic flair to the overall appearance. The deity is draped in a flowing multicolored cloth, intricately intertwined with an assortment of elaborate necklaces, which imbues the figure with a sense of heightened grandeur and beauty. The subtle background subtly elevates the image, a gentle haze that shimmers in hues of peach and pink, adding a sense of tranquility and ethereal beauty to the overall ambiance. This understated element heightens the importance of the central figure while contributing to the atmosphere.

Lord Krishna, born in northern India around 3,228 BCE, emphasized the quality of satva as the real nature of mind. Here are some key points:

  • Satva does not engage in actions nor cause engagement, yet it is present in the universe.

  • satvic mind is karmically pure and equates to freedom.

  • Involuntary actions are not binding, highlighting that karma requires previous effort and actions can distract from satva.

  • The Bhagavad Gita states that food quality greatly influences temperament.

  • The ego is an illusion, so it cannot be destroyed because it does not exist.

  • Faith alone is insufficient as it implies a duality that doesn't exist.

  • All pointers are indirect, emphasizing that words represent concepts, which are themselves illusions, aligning with the Advaita Vedanta saying “neti neti” - not this, not this.

  •

Sri Nisargadatta

Sri Nisargadatta (1897 - 1981) taught from inner experience, emphasizing earnestness, which he defined as:

A strong desire for satva and focusing one’s faculties towards it whenever possible.

Key teachings include:

  • Students learn from others initially, but sincerity leads to independence from teaching.

  • Remembering what needs to be remembered about satva is key to success.

  • The mind should be stripped bare to achieve a quietude beyond names.

  • Personal change comes from abiding in satva, not external teachings.

  • A teacher can only remove the concept of bondage, but individuals must embody satva.

  • Life is shaped by our thoughts, which are influenced by diet. A satva body results in a state independent of thought constructs.

  • Fates after death vary: immediate rebirth, rebirth after a delay, salvation in higher realms for those who have received the TAO from a master, existence as hungry ghosts, or immediate absolution.

The Five Domains

  • The material earth domain

  • The underworld where souls reincarnate or remain as hungry ghosts

  • The chi or energy world, where cultivated souls rest before reincarnation

  • Heaven where souls eventually achieve absolution without reincarnation

  • Absolute emptiness

Meat Consumption and Its Impact 🥩

The lecture addresses the troubling topic of meat consumption:

  • Global meat consumption has escalated, correlating with rising GDP in countries like India and China.

  • This trend leads to environmental degradation and animal cruelty, creating spiritual imbalances.

  • Abusing the environment leads to retribution from nature.

  • Diets lacking compassion contribute to negative behaviors like slaughter, theft, and aggression.

  • Slaughtering animals extinguishes the "light" within their flesh, resulting in darkness and disease. Flesh eaters cannot attain satvic awareness due to animals' lower consciousness.

Great spiritual figures abstained from meat, emphasizing character refinement. Eating meat cannot build character because:

DNA in animal flesh carries a lower level of awareness.

There is a spiritual connection between humans and animals. Eating animal flesh invites retributive disasters because of the souls of slaughtered animals.

Health issues tied to meat consumption include:

  • Heart disease

  • Diseases from factory farming like bird flu, swine fever, and mad cow disease

  • Pollution of the soul, making the journey to heaven difficult

Meat consumption and certain other foods impact heart vibrations, leading to anger and stress.

  • Garliconions, and leeks disrupt heart balance because of the excessive heat they produce.

The Brahmans (highest Indian caste and Vedic scripture teachers) and the TAO avoid these foods. Meat consumers contribute to animal cruelty.

The Inner Sanctum of Satva 🧘

Satva facilitates the path to silence. The conditions in the body have to be perfect for satva to move.

Indications that satva is full:

  • Harmony felt in the digestion

  • Rising to the heart, silencing the mind

  • Carrier of love

When love rises from the digestion or enters the heart, it signifies satva. When the mind becomes inoperable, it's due to satva. When love flows from the heart into nothingness, it is absolute satva. At this point, the confines of the body and attachment to phenomena disappear, leaving only absolute silence. All great saints and sacred scriptures emphasize that the ultimate reality is satva — the state of pure, absolute silence. Ramana Maharshi proclaimed satva as the “best,” highlighting its supreme significance. Harilal Poonja encouraged his followers to “keep quiet by the grace of satva,” recognizing this stillness as the gateway to divine experience. Nisargadatta Maharaj, too, pointed to satva, urging us to turn our attention to nothing but the essence of this silence. In the Torah, the declaration of "I am That I am" (Exodus 3:14) encapsulates the very nature of satva.

What has permanence is absolute quietude, absolute emptiness, absolute nothingness, absolute beingness.

This is the absolute nature of satva - the absolute never changes.

The immortal absolute satva cannot be conceived by a mortal mind. Whatever the mind points to “is not.”

Buddha and Real-Life Buddhas 🌟

What is a Buddha?

Buddha is a being who has transcended the mind, being in absolute emptiness - beyond both life and death.

A human is a being with a mind attached to the universe - a play of life and death.

Real-Life Buddhas

Throughout history, self-realized beings have expressed this state of realization in different ways:

  • Ramana Maharshi: Taught the inquiry "Who am I?" to reveal the emptiness of the self.

  • Harilal Poonja: Emphasized non-doing, as self-realization is already present.

  • Nisargadatta Maharaj: Declared that "sincere awareness of emptiness" is all that is needed.

  • Jesus: Proclaimed, "I am That I Am", signifying pure being.

  • Lao Tzu: Observed that "the universe succumbs to a mind that is still".

These teachings point to freedom from the mind and its illusions leading to true awakening.

How to Keep the Mind from Stimulation

  • Ayurveda: The Role of Satva: Cultivated through nourishing foods that do not overstimulate the mind. A satvic diet promotes clarity, calmness, and inner harmony, preventing the mental agitation that leads to attachment.

  • The TAO: Flowing Towards Emptiness: When the body's energy flows smoothly and without obstruction, one comes to see that the mind is inherently empty, free from craving and disturbance.

  • Macrobiotics: The Balance of Yin and Yang: The key to mental stability lies in achieving a dynamic balance between these opposing energies, preventing the mind from clinging to one side or the other.

  • Unani: The Therapeutics of Dietary Balance: Any deviation from equilibrium is gently corrected, ensuring that food does not over activate the mind.

Chapter 5 Microbes for Harmony 🦠

Introduction

Microbes have a profound evolutionary history:

  • Microbial evolution began billions of years ago.

  • They played a crucial role in the early evolution of life on Earth.

  • They are essential for the functioning of ecosystems.

  • They contribute to soil fertility, plant health, and even human digestion.

No life can exist without microbes.

This image presents a detailed illustration of various microorganisms, showcasing a diverse array of shapes and sizes. The vibrant green hues of the microorganisms stand out against the dark green background, which features a mottled texture. The image is dominated by spheres and oblong shapes, with some featuring long, thin protrusions resembling spines or spikes. The background is characterized by a dark green color with lighter green speckles, adding depth to the overall visual representation. The image appears to be a digital rendering or artistic interpretation rather than a photograph, suggesting its use in educational or informational contexts to illustrate microbial diversity.

Here are some of the benefits of microbes:

  • They help to digest our food, releasing otherwise inaccessible nutrients.

  • They produce vitamins and minerals that are missing from our diet.

  • They break down toxins and hazardous chemicals.

  • They protect us from disease by crowding out more dangerous microbes or disabling them directly with antimicrobial chemicals.

There are estimated to be 200 trillion microbes on and in our bodies.

Friendly Microbes

Friendly microbes offer numerous alkaline health benefits, crucial for maintaining a balanced internal environment. They support digestion, immunity, and overall well-being.

Alkaline-friendly microbes regulate pH levels, promoting health.

Live ingested microbes compared to dead bacteria:

Live microbes contain active, beneficial energies that positively influence spiritual well-being.

Dead bacteria from baked products lack life force and are energetically inert.

Cultivation of Microbes 🧑‍🌾

Cultivating beneficial microbes is vital for gut health. Alive in fermented foods, they bolster gut flora, aiding digestion and nutrient absorption. Probiotics in these microbes boost immunity, fighting off harmful pathogens and reducing inflammation. Enzymes in fermented foods aid digestion, enhancing nutrient absorption and promoting a healthy gut.

Farming Microbes

Koji kin (Aspergillus oryzae), grown on organic rice produces Koji rice, rich in enzymes and probiotics. The koji rice with fungus mold is then used to make miso, shoyu, and amazake.

These foods should not be cooked lest the heat destroys the satva effect.

The image presents a close-up view of a plastic container filled with peanut butter, accompanied by a wooden spoon. The peanut butter is a light brown color and has a smooth, creamy texture. It appears to be freshly stirred, as evidenced by the swirling pattern visible on its surface. At the center of the peanut butter lies a small, irregularly shaped mound, which has been scooped out to create a cavity. This cavity is occupied by the wooden spoon, which features a long handle and a rounded bowl at its tip. The spoon is positioned diagonally within the cavity, with its handle extending towards the bottom-right corner of the image. The background of the image is predominantly white, although some shadows are visible around the edges of the container. These shadows suggest that the image was taken against a plain white backdrop, likely for use in advertising or promotional materials. Overall, the image effectively showcases the product in a clean and visually appealing manner.

Miso - Fermented soybeans with koji rice

Do not heat or cook pickles as the probiotic bacteria will be harmed. Pickled daikon is especially beneficial as it is not only a probiotic but also a blood cleanser removing toxins from industry and traffic.

Homemade Natto, soybeans fermented with bacteria, offers exceptional alkaline health benefits

In the microscopic world of animal husbandry, pickled vegetables like sauerkraut are fermented with beneficial bacteria, enhancing digestibility and detoxification.

Homemade Sauerkraut

Probiotics in sauerkraut improve mental health by enhancing the gut-brain connection, reducing anxiety, and boosting mood. The optimum diet for health is more alkaline-forming foods than acid-forming foods. Most disorders including some yin cancers like leukemia thrive in an acidic internal environment. Disease-forming bacteria also prefer an acid blood balance.

Buddha in Taiwan 🛕

In 2003, the Buddha appeared at a TAO meeting in Taiwan and spoke about the effect of food on TAO cultivation:

  • Balanced food keeps us healthy, while imbalanced food leads to outbursts, illness, and depression.

  • The life force of an animal disrupted by killing it for food disrupts natural harmony, leading to cruelty, environmental damage, and health complications.

  • Extreme yang nature of meat attracts extreme yin foods like sugar and alcohol, fostering diseases.

  • Balanced energy in food is transformative, offering insights into health and happiness.

Buddha’s Teachings 🙏

The Buddha provides guidance:

  • To go beyond the body, you must be healthy.

  • Extremes of yin and yang in your diet lead to attachment.

  • Cultivating sensible health practices leads to a contented present and future.

  • Acceptance rather than striving is best.

  • The real purpose of life is detachment from phenomena to realize the Buddha mind.

  • Holistic health is the means to final freedom.

  • Foods can either increase attachment or generate freedom.

  • Understanding the laws within nature guides us to freedom, ending the cycle of birth and death attachment.

Conclusion

Friendly bacteria and fungi play a vital role in nurturing our physical and emotional wellbeing. Firstly, these beneficial microorganisms contribute to gut health by maintaining a balanced microbiome. By populating the gut with diverse strains of bacteria and fungi, they enhance digestion and nutrient absorption, ensuring optimal functioning of the digestive system.

🦠 Gut Health and Mood Regulation

Friendly bacteria and fungi have immune-boosting properties that defend against harmful pathogens, reducing the risk of infections. They also positively influence mental health, potentially alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression. Cultivating and consuming fermented foods can foster a deeper connection to food and nature, enhancing overall well-being, vitality, and joy.

💧 Chapter 6: Power of Water Therapy

Given that the human body is mostly water, maintaining water temperature balance is key to addressing many health issues.

Introduction

Water therapy is a potent tool in aiding the body's healing process. Pathogens thrive in the bloodstream where a cold body temperature is crucial for their proliferation. Hot water therapy disrupts this environment, making it inhospitable for pathogen growth. Cells hosting pathogens have diminished growth and survival rates at elevated temperatures. Even a slight increase is often fatal for pathogen cells. Fever intensifies the immune system's response, impeding microbial survival.

Turning up the heat creates an inhospitable environment for pathogens, tipping the scales in favor of the immune system. The philosophical understanding is that a cold body invites cold-loving pathogens, while raising body temperature disrupts this condition.

States of Water

Water therapy can be administered in various forms: liquid, ice, and steam. Each possesses remarkable healing properties.

  • Liquid Water: Vital for hydration, supporting digestion, nutrient absorption, and toxin removal. Hydrotherapy utilizes liquid water in baths, pools, and showers to improve circulation, alleviate pain, and promote relaxation.

  • Ice: Ice therapy (cryotherapy) reduces inflammation, numbs pain, and accelerates injury healing. Applying ice packs constricts blood vessels, reducing swelling and inflammation. Ice baths reduce muscle soreness and speed up recovery after intense physical activity.

  • Steam: Steam therapy (steam inhalation or sauna therapy) uses vapor to open nasal passages, alleviate congestion, and improve respiratory health. Saunas promote detoxification, improve cardiovascular health, reduce stress, soothe muscles, improve joint flexibility, and enhance skin health by opening pores.

Water in its liquid, solid, and steam forms offers diverse methods for maintaining and restoring health.

👨‍⚕️ Unani Doctor Aman

Dr. Aman, the author of "Medicinal Secrets of Your Food," has made a huge contribution to the field of nutritional science and holistic health. His work explores how everyday foods can be leveraged to enhance health and prevent disease. Dr. Aman emphasizes the integration of hot and cold therapies to achieve balanced health.

Here is a photo of Dr. Aman. His work is rooted in ancient healing traditions, are highly effective in promoting wellness and restoring bodily functions.

Types of Water Therapy

  • Hot Therapy: Also known as thermotherapy, involves applying heat to alleviate pain, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Heat dilates blood vessels, enhancing blood flow and bringing oxygen and nutrients for healing. Beneficial for soothing stiff joints and sore muscles, reducing inflammation, and improving mobility.

  • Cold Therapy: Also known as cryotherapy, involves using cold temperatures to reduce inflammation and numb pain. It is used to treat acute injuries, such as sprains or strains, by constricting blood vessels to reduce swelling and prevent further tissue damage. Cold therapy decreases metabolic activity, reducing the risk of cell death and speeding up recovery.

The Balance of Hot and Cold Therapies

Dr. Aman advocates for balanced use of hot and cold therapies as part of a holistic approach to health. Alternating heat and cold can stimulate the circulatory system, enhance detoxification, and boost the immune system. This approach helps harmonize the body's internal environment, promoting optimal health and well-being.

Uses of Liquid Water

Cold and Flu Infection

Using two hot water rubber bottles filled with boiling water provides immediate relief at the onset of a cold or flu. Place one on the chest and another on the stomach, insulated to prevent burns, to elevate body temperature, deterring flu and cold pathogens. Sleeping with them augments the therapeutic effect, subsiding symptoms by morning.

Kuzu Drink

Take half a cup of water and bring to boil. Add one tablespoon of kuzu powder to half a cup of cold water and dissolve. Add the dissolved kuzu to the boiling water and stir until the liquid becomes translucent and turn off the heat. Add half umeboshi plum and 5 drops of shoyu or tamari soya sauce.

This drink restores the yin-yang balance of the body.

Breakfast Rice

For breakfast, take pressure-cooked whole organic rice and sprinkle some gomasio, and add an umeboshi plum, followed by a cup of mu tea.

This breakfast restores balance and renders the blood more alkaline. Stick to organic whole foods, excluding yin foods like tomatoes, potatoes, aubergine, garlic, onions, leeks, and chives. Avoid fruit during recovery, especially avocados and tropical fruits.

Advantages of Hot Water Bottles

Hot water bottles are powerful tools in pain relief and health management. Heat aids digestion, improves circulation, and alleviates discomfort from muscle tension or menstrual cramps. It soothes the stomach area and relieves constipation and headaches. It's also a remedy for congestion, clearing airways and easing sinus discomfort.

Take proactive action by embracing a diet rich in organic, whole vegan foods to prevent disease recurrence and promote overall well-being.

Uses of Ice Therapy

Muscle sprains can be treated with almost 100% recovery in just a few hours.

For a sprained ankle, fill one container with very hot water and another with ice water. Soak the ankle in the ice water until you feel the cold entering the ankle, then place the ankle in the hot water until it becomes intolerable. Alternate until the ice has melted and the hot water becomes tepid.

The pain should subside and heal completely by the next day. For muscle pain, soak a towel in ice water and another in hot water, placing the cold towel on the painful muscle first, then the hot towel, until the water is tepid.

Uses of Steam Therapy

Saunas have tremendous health advantages, especially in restoring normal bodily functioning.

  • Detoxification: The high heat in saunas induces sweating, which helps eliminate toxins, including heavy metals and environmental pollutants, restoring the body's natural balance.

  • Reduced Inflammation and Oxidative Stress: Sauna use is linked to reduced inflammation and oxidative stress, common contributors to chronic diseases, supporting the body’s natural healing processes and enhancing immune function.

  • Stress Reduction: Endorphins released in response to heat from the sauna reduce stress, anxiety, and sadness, improving mental health.

Health Care Ministers

Appointing obese health care ministers reflects a disconnect in understanding the relationship between obesity and overall health, influenced by the food industry's profit motives. Many health care professionals lack a holistic understanding of disease etiology, focusing on symptom management rather than root causes. Allopathic medicine perpetuates this imbalance, leaving the public unaware of alternative paths to wellness.

Conclusion

Water therapy is a beacon of hope for those seeking to restore balance.

Optimal results are attained by those in good health with moderate dietary extremes. Transform your lifestyle to a satvic diet, focusing on whole, organic foods, abundant in grains and vegetables.

Failure to heed the importance of balance may lead to a cycle of reincarnations and adversities. Satvic food emerges as a catalyst for good health, emotional equilibrium, and spiritual evolution, offering a pathway to transcend the cycle of birth and death.

Actions, both virtuous and heinous, find resonance in the intricate tapestry of cosmic balance. It is best to eat satvic food, take detached action but do not dwell on the returns. All will come that will come. The consequences of killing reverberate through the fabric of existence, underscoring the immutable law of balance.

Ultimately, the purpose of philosophy is to free the mind from the constraints of attachment, dissolving the bonds of conceptual proliferation so that one can encounter the world in its pure, unadulterated form, bridging the insights of Eastern and Western traditions, urging us to let go of the ephemeral and embrace the eternal.
